Religion 1

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

I feel I have to start with my religious beliefs as I genuinely feel that these define the rest of my ideology.  I think I’ll proceed in a simple list, explaining only where I feel like it.  This is not an apologetic, nor an attempt to prove my beliefs; this serves, rather, to outline what I believe.

1. There is higher power outside of humanity.  I believe this power is God, the one true God described first in the Old Testament of the Bible.

2. Mankind, one of God’s creations, failed and continues to fail to comply with God’s instituted law.  This brings the prospect of eternal separation from God – hell, or true death, as it were.

3. God, loving his creation, provided a means of reconciliation.  He sent a part of Himself – His Son, Jesus Christ – to Earth.  Jesus came to Earth as both fully human and fully God simultaneously so He could experience the same temptation and pain as people.  Jesus lived sinless on Earth before being killed, and in so doing, substituting His life for our own lives, if we believe and depend on Him as the only means back to God.

4. I believe that dependence on Jesus to take our place is the only way back to God.  Apart from Jesus, the only Hereafter is separation and death, which sounds like Hell to me.

5. God loves His entire creation and wants us to care for it.

6. God commands us to love Him first, and each other second, treating one another as we would ourselves.  Since we are His creation, we should care for each other.

7. I believe the Bible is God’s Word, and describes through direct narrative, poetry, allegory, and prophecy, His intentions, instructions, and interaction for and with His creation.

This is probably incomplete, but contains the gist of my religion.  I will state that I am, based on what I described above, a Christian.

Today’s the day

Alright, two things:

1. I’ve posted pics of my trip to Prague!
2. Today I’ll actually post the first part of my “life manifesto” as it were.  I should clarify that I don’t plan on spending much time justifying what I say in these initial posts.  I will, however, build on each post with the subsequent one.

I have returned.

I’m back!  Now, perhaps, Jake will stop posting comments on the last post ;-)

Hopefully in the next few days I will accomplish two things:

1. Post a whole mess of pictures from my trip to Flickr.
2. Post the first piece of deep soul-spewing as I promised.  Here’s a hint: I’ll start with Religion!

For now, off to bed!!!

Prepare thyself!

Alright, so I’ve pretty much decided to spill my guts on this site in the coming weeks.

I’m planning to deliver, serially, what amounts to my spin on life.  This will include political beliefs, religious ideology, practical considerations, etc.

I know only a few people read this, and you folks already know a lot of these things about me, but I have to write it out for the record.

Yeah, I’ll probably be side-tracked by the vacation and such, but I won’t forget about this.  I’ve just gotta do it.

Fiddle sticks.

Well that was…ick.  The Czech’s mutilated us today, beating the US Soccer team 3-0.

Let’s hope our boys can tackle the Italians on Saturday – though I won’t be too broken up about it if we don’t, since, well…they’re Italian :-)

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooal!

Friday, June 9th, 2006

I don’t typically follow soccer, but I do find it entertaining.

This year is the World Cup tournemant, and the first game for the US team is against the Czech Republic, Monday, June 12th at noon EST.

I mention this because I’m getting ready to head to Prague, and I’m not quite sure what the mood towards Americans will be if the US happens to best the Czechs in game one.

I’d say I’ll root for Italia, but they’re in the same group in Stage 1, so either way I could experience some sour looks at the sound of my English…If we win, of course :-)

Afghan donkey bomb plot foiled

It’s really hard not to laugh at that…

Evan Almighty

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Holy CRAP!

My crazy lil’ bro Nick just got a call (well, my mom got the call, but it was for him) about an audition he did for Evan Almighty, the upcoming sequal to Bruce Almighty.

I don’t know what kind of role he’ll have, be it extra or walk-on, or maybe one line…but apparently they’ve been trying to contact him for a while via cell phone, but his battery has been kaput, etc…

Either way, they’re filming in the Charlottesville/Crozet area, and he’ll be doing something.  I hope it’s a visible part, just so I can see my bro on the big screen!

Woot!

I’ll be home for…the 4th of July

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Well I officially have the U-Haul scheduled for July 1st when Valerie and I move!

I believe Val has scheduled the movers as well, for June 30th, to take care of the furniture.

Now we just have some final maintenance and packing, and it’s count-down to moving day!

It’s “Being John Malkovich for Morons.”

I just read a hilarious review of the wretched film, Bewitched, on New York Magazine’s website.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.
