DANG. It’s weird how so many trends (or dare I say…MEMES?!??) permeate teh webs. Wait, no, it’s not weird. Sometimes it’s kind of annoying.
Now I’ve written about this before, and I’m just as guilty of riding the trendy train sometimes (though usually in the caboose). Well now, the flavor of the month seems to be Proust. Marcel Proust, that is, French author most famous for In Search of Lost Time.
As I am not known for erudition, I’d not heard of Proust until I saw Little Miss Sunshine. But in the past few weeks alone, I feel as if I can’t escape the deceased author.
Today, Zeldman name-dropped. Twice this week there were linked references from Kottke’s site: the Vanity Fair “Proust” questionnaire for Karl Rove, and an interview in The Morning News with Arthur Phillips. Newsweek even gets in on the action in an interview with author Jonah Lehrer.
I dunno, maybe the dude was a great author. Maybe I need to read some of his work. Maybe, though, talking about a mopey turn of the century French author just sounds cool in the hipster circles.
Whatever.
