Richmond.com: FAIL

I like Richmond.com for what it is – a central place to find out a lot of what’s going on in my fair city. New restaurants, local politics, city events and activities – not the best or most complete, but certainly serviceable.

This morning, however, they published a piece called “A Hotbed of Citizen Journalism” about local blogs/websites following the goings-on in and around River City. Stephanie Brummell, the article’s author, lists several of the better-known sites around town and their authors, but fails to link to even one of them! C’mon! What’s the point of writing about blogs on a web-published article without linking to the aforementioned blogs?

So I’ve decided to fix her list:
Terry Rae’s Fan District Hub
John Murden’s Church Hill People’s News and River District News
Bill Wade’s Hills & Heights
Jon Baliles’ RiverCityRapids
Brenda Priebe’s Petersburg People’s News
RVANews and RVABlogs, both from Ross Catrow

John Murden, it seems, coaxed out a series of district-specific sites from various residents of each locale. From either of the sites mentioned above or Hills & Heights/River District News/Petersburg People’s News, you can see links to other sites within what appears to be his network. All very useful for folks living in those areas.

In general, Catrow’s aggregator sites (RVANews and RVABlogs) seem to keep everything nicely summarized – a lot better than Outside.in I might add – so if you’re looking for what’s going on around town, those are probably good places to start.

UPDATE:
About 20 minutes after posting, I’ve noticed that Richmond.com now includes links to all the websites. Big-time kudos for fixing that, and so quickly.
